Schalk Brits
Perhaps his finest performance came in the 2010/11 Grand Final against Leicester when he was an inspirational defender as Saracens held on for a thrilling 22-18 victory. His play earned him the Man of the Match award. In January 2012 he signed a new three-year contract with Saracens.
In South Africa, Schalk played for the Western Province from 2002 to 2004 and again from 2006 to 2009 and in Super Rugby he played four seasons for the Stormers from 2006 to 2009, also re-joining them on a short term loan in 2011.
Internationally, Schalk made his debut for the Springboks against Italy in 2008. He was recalled for the tour to Ireland, Scotland and England in November 2012 and won his fifth cap when he came on as a replacement in the 16-15 victory over England.
Although one of the strong men in the pack as a hooker, Brits is a versatile player with great fitness and ball-carrying skills and in the 2009/10 season, for example, he scored seven tries.
