World record holder Tatjana Schoenmaker becomes Laureus Sport For Good Foundation SA Ambassador

Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Tatjana Schoenmaker was announced as Laureus Sport For Good Foundation SA’s newest ambassador.

Through this appointment, the SA swimming sensation joins an expanding group of South African sporting icons who assist the Foundation and the programmes it funds to uplift and empower the youth in underserved communities through sport.

The announcement was made in Johannesburg, with sporting legends Butch James, Dumisani Chauke, Shaun Pollock and Deshun Deysel  in attendance to help welcome Schoenmaker to the Laureus family.

Schoenmaker said she is excited to join a family of sporting heroes and leaders who use their individual skills to collectively play a role within the Sport for Development space.

“It is an honour and privilege to work with a team that shares an aligned set of values and ideas to make a difference.

“Ultimately, we shouldn’t be remembered for our achievements and medals, but instead for the people we are and how we continue to use our talents to improve the lives of others. I can’t wait to get started!”

Morné du Plessis, Chairperson of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa, highlighted the importance of having athletes like Schoenmaker on board to help the Foundation continue its mission: “We place great value in aligning with top athletes who share our mission and passion for community upliftment through sport. Anyone can be a sporting hero, but true heroes also realise the responsibility they have to give back. I am therefore proud to have Tatjana join the Laureus family – the home of so many South African sporting legends who continue to work hard to bring sustainable change to the communities that need it most.”
