9Miles Project: Surfing
Founded in Cape Town in 2013, 9Miles Project is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering vulnerable children and youth through holistic community support. The organisation creates safe spaces and structured after-school programmes that encourage resilience, confidence and positive life choices, using surfing as their catalyst.
Operating across Cape Town, Elands Bay, and St Francis Bay, 9Miles Project provides a range of services including food relief, literacy and academic support, mentorship, skills development, job creation initiatives and community-based programmes. Its community feeding programme alone serves approximately 700 meals each day.
By introducing young people to the ocean and the sport of surfing, 9Miles Project encourages healthy lifestyles, builds self-esteem and instills a lasting respect for the environment.
