Laureus Sport For Good Foundation SA Celebrates 20 Year Anniversary With Goodwill Tour

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa will embark on a Goodwill Tour to the Eastern Cape between 20 and 22 June, which will see the team visit a number of their supported community programmes along the way, and culminate with the launch of  a programme new to the shores of  East London.

The Tour forms part of Laureus SA’s 20 year anniversary celebrations, and will also be supported by Laureus SA Ambassadors Maps Maponyane, Natalie du Toit, Cecil Afrika and Bianca Buitendag.

Departing from Cape Town, the Laureus SA team will make their first stop in George, where they will visit learners from Life Christian Academy and lead a morning of fun and engaging sporting activities.

A day in Gqeberha follows, where the team, in collaboration with United Through Sport (UTS) and BrightRock, will hand over library books and plant trees at Isaac Booi Primary.

This will lead to one of the highlights of the trip when members of YPO will join Laureus SA Ambassadors for a thrilling Mercedes-Benz AMG Drive Experience in Gqeberha followed by a road to East London where it will culminate in an exclusive tour of the MBSA Plant. A visit with the staff and learners at AW Barnes Primary for the introduction of the new Laureus-supported programme, will bring the 20th Year Goodwill Tour to conclusion.

“We are excited that this Goodwill Tour gives us the opportunity to celebrate – alongside our Eastern Cape-based programmes – the impact of Sport for Good on the lives of many children over the last two decades,” says Morné du Plessis, Chairperson of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa.

“As a Foundation, we believe in being actively involved in the programmes we support, and it is always fantastic to see how these project visits and activities are enjoyed in equal measure by our Ambassadors, as well as the programme leaders and programme beneficiaries. This is when we truly see Sport for Good at work, and witness the difference that sport makes in the lives of others.”

“Mercedes-Benz is proud to be associated with this Goodwill Tour and as Country patron of Laureus South Africa, and pleased with the significant levels of growth achieved over the past 6 years,” adds Abey Kgotle, Executive Director of Human Resources & Corporate Affairs for Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
