As Nelson Mandela so famously said, “sport has the power to change the world, it has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is launching their Supporters’ club which offers the public the opportunity to actively participate in change. For a small once off or monthly donation, supporters of the club can become a part of the sport for development movement and make a difference.
The world currently finds itself in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis which affects people from all backgrounds. But the sad reality is that community organisations currently face the threat of closure – potentially leaving many children and young people without safe and inclusive spaces for help and support, and at an increased risk of exposure to violence, sexual abuse, exploitation, and challenges to their mental health.
The aim of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Supporters’ Club is to help their Programme beneficiaries serve their communities now, and tomorrow.
A donation to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’s Supporters’ Club will enable the creation of vital new channels to help Programme beneficiaries receive the help they need now, while ensuring that they can continue to make a difference in their communities in the aftermath of this global time of crisis.
A contribution of a R100 per month subscription or a R500 once off donation gains donors’ entries into the draw to win a brand new Mercedes-Benz A200 Sedan, valued at over R600 000.
Mercedes-Benz South Africa has been a proud partner of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation since inception and have extended their partnership to work together with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in providing the prize for one lucky supporter.
In an ongoing effort to make a sustainable impact in South African communities – and to address the need for interventions into the development of South African youth to enable them to positively to contribute to the economy in the future – Mercedes-Benz South Africa continue to seek opportunities to make a positive impact on the communities in which they operate.
Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s involvement with Laureus spans beyond just a corporate level, and their collective initiatives illustrate a true CSI partnership that cares about the Foundation’s work in the community.
“Sport is an important connective tissue that binds people together. At Mercedes-Benz South Africa we believe it is important to embrace those things that bring us together. The uniquely unifying power of sports and our commitment to good corporate citizenry continues to be the driving force to our country patronship with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation,” commented Johannes Fritz Co CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa and Executive Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
“We are extremely thankful to Mercedes-Benz for their belief in the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and continually looking at ways to assist us in our day to day activities and increasing revenue streams, said Chairman, Laureus Sport for Good South Africa, Morne Du Plessis.
COVID has made it difficult for us to continue doing things the way we are used to, but our long and short term goals remain the same, and that is to be a leader in the field of sport and social change. We are not the only organisation working in this field, but since Laureus has become active in the arena of sport and social change we have partnered with many other organisations and will continue to do so to promote sport as a change agent in young peoples’ lives. That was the goal at the beginning, 20 years ago and that remains steadfastly the same – and with partners like Mercedes-Benz South Africa long may it continue.
We encourage everyone to get involved with the Supporters’ Club by donating and joining our Laureus family in ensuring that sports development continues to get the support it needs to succeed in the long term.”
